Holiday

Hi, I'm spending the holiday with my husband's mother and his brother's family away from home. Unfortunately, the cat must have found my mouse because it will not work. Guess I'll have to stay off line and have fun!

Hope your holiday has been fun.

Jewelry is Dangerous!

My fellow crafters, I must admit weakness. I fell almost completely apart under the weight of my daily promotion duties when I added one more chore - columnist for HMN News. Because my chosen department is not one in which I am expert, to say the least, extensive research is needed for each of my columns. That, a chance for an exclusive jewelry show, and remodeling my studio (which has major problems since the change to fusion squared off pix, and was in the process of being reorganized already) and daily guild blogs (which I haven't managed for a couple months at least) and Crazy Train blogs on every other day and Forum responses and Sneakers Tuesday did me in. All this should be manageable, some of you may say, since I'm not working, but I have the job search and actually enjoying my hobby as well. I'm still learning most of these thngs, so they are time intensive. I simply couldn't do it. And it depressed me that I couldn't. I don't want to give up any of these things, but I just must cut back.

I'll blog once or twice a week on each blog. That means that I will promote the crazy train rider in the Forums and on Facebook and Twitter through Plurk. At the end of the week, whichever day it ends up falling on, I will do a quick introduction of each Crazy Train rider for the week on my blog. I will continue to do RSS feeds for them. Not sure if it will be daily or weekly.

I will continue my research for HMN and my columns, especially now that the output requirements have been changed. I will spend a minimal time in the forums and almost no time on Plurk or Twitter or other venues until I establish a routine that is comfortable. I hope you will forgive my inattentiveness in the past and until then.

Thank you very much to those of you who sought me out on various venues to find out how I was doing. It was appreciated.

I'll see you sometime next week!

Next stop, RockyCreekGems

I've known Rocky ever since I joined ArtFire and started going to the forums. One weekend she was going to two towns near her that sounded awfully familiar and I thought I might get a chance to meet her. I was thinking Elgin Illinois, she's in Elgin, TX. *sigh*

This talented artist does it all, but she features some of her jewelry offerings in this studio:

"Welcome to Rocky Creek Gems and Gifts! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you will enjoy your visit and will return often.

"This shop abides by the voluntary Code of Ethics:

" I pledge that everything in my shop is hand-crafted; is either my own design, or I have legal permission to use it. I pledge to provide my customers with the highest quality product I'm capable of producing; to treat my customers courteously; to provide them with excellent service; and to conduct my business in an ethical and socially responsible manner."

About herself, "Rocky Creek Gems and Gifts is named for the little creek that runs through the 86 acres of our family property just outside La Grange, Texas.

"I have been making things for as long as I can remember. I'm not a "single-craft" person! I enjoy working with gemstones, beadwork, knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, embroidery--you name it! As a former middle school science teacher, I particularly love making use of unusual items.

"I am the author of two wildcrafting booklets available through Texas Parks."

I hope you enjoyed your stop in RockyCreekGems. Remember to leave a comment for her.

Kraftouch Treasures is our next stop!

KraftouchTreasures is a talented jewelry maker and otherwise crafter.

About her studio she says,
"Aloha, welcome to Kraftouch Treasures ....FREE SHIPPING for US orders on our LEI products

"Memorial Day Sale take 25% OFF Everything in the Store.
"This is the collaborative crafts of my mother and me. I create the jewelry and she makes the lei.
Sitting infront of my beading table looking at the bare wires and beads, and coming up with a creative idea of a wearable art and seeing the finish product, is such an exhilarating feeling, the sense of completion deep within just wipe away the stress of the day. Just as much I found my 'haven of rest' in designing jewelry, I hope that you will enjoy and cherish wearing my 'work of art.'
"Designing is something I always crave to do. From drafting board to beadboard, my passion for crafting and jewelry making is such a treasure I hold close to my heart because it allowed me to enjoy the wonderful growing years of my two girls, that's how I came up with my company's name 'Kraftouch Treasures.'
"What you see here is exactly what we will send to your door.
"Please enjoy your time with us, thank you for stopping by. Visit us often as we update our products everytime.
"Mahalo Nui Loa."

About the artisan:

"From the busy world of architecture to jewelrymaking, Aloha, I am a mother of two bubbly 'wahine' 12 and 10 and my mom 'Nana Puring' is a retired teacher. I am a self taught jewelry designer. I learned every techniques and design by browsing through books and magazines and practically doing it all by myself, while my mom I would say is a gifted crafter in crocheting.

"I was also an instructor/demonstrator at OLELO TV with Carole Mitos show -Hawaii's Hobbies and Crafts, a volunteer work I did for 6 months, that had allowed me to explore the world outside the 4 corners of my home studio. I have worked with Craft Supplies of Honolulu and Ben Franklin Crafts. I have taught jewelry classes at Ben Franklin for almost a year and looking forward to meet a bunch of my eager friends and student early next year 2009.

"I have truly found the simple pleasures of life and enjoyed making jewelry away from the complicated demands of the construction world which I have given up to attend to the needs of my two girls. From drafting board to beadboard, my passion for crafting and jewelry making is such a treasure I hold close to my heart because it allowed me to enjoy the wonderful growing years of my two girls, that's how I came up with my company's name "Kraftouch Treasures".

"Jewelry making and crafting are my 'haven of rest', keep me all alive from all the challenges in life.

"A portion of the sales will go to the "Amazing Grace" a youth organization of Saint John the Baptist-Honolulu headed by Ms.Arlene Domondon, which aim in fostering awareness to our younger generations the needs of the less fortunate here in Honolulu by giving food to the homeless people at the Kakaako Shelter at least twice a year.

Crazy Train Stop

Before we board, I must apologize for neglecting this blog for so long. I have been both ill and very busy: I've become a columnist on HandMade News which requires that I do a lot of research before I put my name to the words. The links to our department columns have been added to this blog on the right. I hope you will use them to learn, as I am, about easy peasy (to quote our Crazy Train creator) ways to keep the earth from some of the damage our species engenders.

ArtFire has rolled out some changes to individual studios! You may see the upgraded product when you visit the next hamlet, Angelas_Adornments.

She has beautiful wire worked and strung jewelry and gorgeous watercolor images for sale.

Angela says, "I'm 40something....Married to my best friend for almost 27 years. We have two adult children and three beautiful grandchildren.

I create my Art in my studio in our home which we share with two cats, Oreo and Woo Kitty."

ArtFire seems to have hidden the word introductions to our studios, at least as far as my quick scan can reveal, so let me exerpt Angela's policies here, which is descriptive of her art as well: "My Art Jewelry is designed for normal and ordinary use,
and apart from a polish every now and then, should give you a lifetime of wear.
Please do not slseep in, bathe, or swim in your Art Jewelry.

"I want you to love your Art Jewelry piece as much as I love designing and creating them. If a piece is not what you had iin mind at the time of your order, let me know and we'll get you what you want."

Take a stroll through her studio and see the wide variety of beautiful items (not just jewelry) she offers. Enjoy your Sunday, and don't forget to leave a comment for our artisan. You could be May's giveaway winner.

Next stop, debanvetdesigns!

Happy Sunday, everyone! I get to go see the nieces today, so I will quickly introduce you to debvanetdesigns.

I love the crazy train! I've not seen this artist on the forums, so the studio is new to me, too. Some unique and interesting items in it!

About the artist: "Mom to two, wife to one, artist, crafter, designer, gardener, volunteer, recycler, cat, chicken and worm owner, uninspired cook, amazing housekeeper. So many hats and only two hands, strong hands with nimble -always busy- fingers and trashed fingernails.
My experience in needlework, sewing, miniatures, doll-making, painting, paper arts, jewelry, mixed media collage allow me to use many different skills and techniques to hand-craft my items.

I have made art and craft all my life, studied art history, spent far too much time in school, and finally realized MAKING things, beautiful things to hold and wear and hopefully pass down is where I find my bliss."

About the studio, "Welcome to debvandetdesigns! Handmade jewelry for you and artful adornments for you and your home. I use mixed media and a variety of techniques, new and recycled components to make my original designs. Whether your style is girly or goth, I might have something you'll love. If not... I would love to make it for you. Custom work and collaboration on a piece of jewelry that is personal and meaningful for you is a joy for me.

Please visit me at www.debvandetdesigns.blogspot.com where I might chat about art, craft, chickens, kids, gardens, cats, and life in general. Thanks!"

When the company closed the facility I was working in, I decided I wanted something that allowed me to stay home with my little guy. So, I started making stuff. I hope you like my stuff. JewelrybyJanzia is our next stop!

Before we pull into the station, let me remind you that today is Sneaker Tuesday. I can't wait to see who the committee picks today! I love browsing new shops, as you may tell from my regular blog, and love that we can bring together the ArtFire community every week to share with one of our Artisans.

Ah, I see the train is slowing now....say hello to JewelrybyJanzia:

About the studio, "Thank you for stopping by my shop! At Jewelry by Janzia you will find an eclectic array of handcrafted jewelry designs from the simple to the sublime. Whether you are looking for some sparkle to wear with your favorite comfy jeans or something to add an extra special touch to that little black dress, Jewelry by Janzia has something to suit every style. So kick up your feet, browse around and indulge, adorn, and enjoy yourself."

About herself, "Hi, my name is Jeanette Krantz. I originally hail from West Virginia but now call Charlotte, NC home, which I love but will admit to missing the mountains from time to time. I'm a SAHM with two wonderful kids, two dogs, and a very supportive and loving husband.

I first became interested in making jewelry when I commented on liking a pair of my neighbors earrings and she told me that her daughter had made them. I was amazed by the idea that you could make your own earrings and a little seed was planted. The next time I went to my local library I checked out every book I could on jewelry making. I read everything I could on the subject but wasn't really spurred to action until I went to a jewelry party (not the handcrafted kind but a company sponsored one). I loved everything I saw but after reading so much about it I kept thinking to myself I could make that. I figured by this point it was time to stop thinking about it and start doing something. I went home and scoured all my books once again and then made my first piece which I gave to my mom for her birthday. After that there was no stopping me.

Not one to ever do things halfway I went on a shopping spree and started making more than I could ever give away. I first got the thought to sell my jewelry when my neighbor asked if I had anything to sell because she was looking for a gift for her neice. I sold my first piece that day and at the urging of my family and friends decided to create Jewelry by Janzia and here I am."

Enjoy your Tuesday, and don't forget to leave a comment for Jeanette. You could be May's giveaway winner.

Every month I give away a pair of earrings or custom-length bracelet to a randomly picked commenter. Have fun!

This mother/daughter team is busy supplying me with beads out of their supply studio. I can see that I need to spend more time in their jewelry studio as well!

About their shop, "Mother's Day will be here before you know it! Check out our Bijoux For MOM Section for great gifts just for her!
Canada and US- May 10th

Welcome to our shop! We are a mother/daughter team who share the love of jewelry and all things pretty.

We hope you find something for that extra special gift or that little something to treat yourself.

Looking for great beads, charms and findings? Check out our supplies shop at www.rougeriverbeads.artfire.com

Today's Crazy Train Rider is ME! Be sure to check out our Spring Cleaning Section for some FANTASTIC DEALS!"

"We are a mother/daughter team who share the love of creating.

Creating has been in my blood forever. First was sewing clothes for my kids when they were little and decorating the house. Then followed the art of quilting. I love the therapeutic nature of the hand quilting stitch and being snuggled into my finished creation.

Then came painting on any surface that didn't move. Our final stop has landed with jewelry. The wealth of beautiful beads and stones that are available gives constant inspiration allowing us to interpret them into fun or delicate and unique creations to accent your wardrobe and home."

Their shipping is reasonable and I get their items quickly, even though they are not located in the same country as I am. Take a stroll through their shops and have fun this Tuesday!

Next stop, Wooley Creek!

Happy Saturday!

Wooley Creek is the place where my ArtFire friend, Carmon, is building her retirement cabin. She and her husband are Native American, and she does beautiful Native American bead weaving and has some wonderful vintage turquoise and silver items for sale on her web site. I love her sense of humor and her Life Happens attitude.

Her studio, in her words: "Welcome to my shop! I love Tribal and Ethnic Jewelry of every kind. As you can see, I specialize in Native American beadwork and crafts. I am new to Artfire so I hope you will enjoy my shop.

We Will ship anywhere! Just contact us."

"I have been beading since 1990. We also do other NA crafts. My husband and I set up at Powwows and Flea Markets to sell my crafts and Vintage Native American Jewelry. We also sell on Ebay. under the name of Wooleycreek.

I am disabled and spend most of my time doing things I can sit at the table to work on. Beadwork helps pass the time when I can't walk!"

No spotlight of Carmon's work would be complete without her web site (which she has put together herself) and her beautiful vintage items.

I love these baby booties and hope to get a pair soon.

Wooleycreek Tribal & Ethnic Jewelry

I trust this artisan so much that I've given her very sketchy parameters and asked her, "create something fabulous for a gift."

So stroll through her studio. Remember to please follow this blog, and come back and let me know what you like the most of her offerings.

Here's why: At the end of the month I'll randomly select one of the persons who has posted a favorite item to win a pair of sterling silver and pewter earrings or sterling plated made-to-order bracelet with a cute little pewter charm. For the men, I have a sterling plated made-to-order bracelet without a cute little pewter charm.

Next stop, CreativeCoveJewelryDesigns

CreativeCoveJewelryDesigns' artisan is one I've become familiar with through the ArtFire Forums. She's a really neat person and I'm glad to have the chance to spotlight her.

Here's what she says about her studio: "Welcome to my shop. I hope you enjoy your visit. I derive great joy from creating my one of a kind jewelry. I have been designing jewelry for six years. It has become an increasing desire for me. All designs are my own and come from my heart with love. Please contact me with any questions. It is possible to custom make pieces just for you. Please enjoy your visit here. From the business suit to blue jeans, we have the accessory for you."

"Hi! And here's what she says of herself, "I am so happy to be here on Artfire. I live in Alaska, and stay at home with my three year old grandson. I devote a lot of my time to my jewelry and the designs I create. My DH and I have lived here for twenty five years. Most of the inspiration for my pieces comes from the great beauty I am surrounded by in this great state. I have been making jewelry for about six years and have been selling at art markets and bazaars for the last year. Enjoy!"

Next Stop, SilverRiverJewelry

Today we visit the little town of SilverRiverJewelry. I see Silver quite often in the forums and she is always ready to lend a hand or to accept advice. Here's what she has to say about her shop:

"
Fine artisan jewelry made with a variety of techniques including wire wrapping, metal smithing and lapidary (rocks). I make elegant, affordable, well made jewelry with a touch of whimsy."

I wish I could manage to buy the equipment for and the "rock" to cut my own cabs. Here's an example of one she cut and metalsmithed into a gorgeous pendant:

Of herself, she says, "I have a passion for my family, the outdoors and designing jewelry. I am also an avid reader and enjoy being on the water. I love summer and am not so thrilled with winter (this is an issue since I live in Ohio lol!).

I love what I do. For me the whole process is fascinating. It is like treasure hunt, from finding the perfect combination of stones or beads, to manipulating the metal with hammer and fire. Digging a stone out of the ground that looks like nothing special only to open it up and find beauty inside. There is something elementally satisfying in that."

I've been trying to learn to wrap a ring like this. It looks easy to do, but it's not.

So stroll through her studio. Remember to please follow this blog, and come back and let me know what you like the most of her offerings.

Next stop, 3zArt!

Sorry I'm so late, everyone. I got up and took a few pictures then fell asleep at the computer! I'm waking up again now...

3zArt is one of the most active people on ArtFire. If you don't understand something, she'll answer your question, whether it's something she's answered hundreds of times before or not. She understands that new people can't always find or understand things that have been discussed in the past. She comes from a 3 generational artisan family. Her grandmother and mother both have shops on ArtFire that she manages. She also has a booth in a local market.

So, here is 3zArts in her own words:

"------FELLOW WEST TEXANS--------

I will be setting up a booth at a flea market here in town for the next few weeks. It's the "Vendors Market" at 7901 S.W. 81st (when you're going down Soncy, 81st street is the last street before the road curves). Its open Thurs-Sat from 10:00am-6:00pm and the 1st Sunday of each month from 10:00am-6:00pm. I will try to be up there as often as I can and will be taking custom orders.

-------ARTFIRE DECOR GUILD--------

I am guild master of the Artfire Decor Guild. Come check us out at: http://ArtfireDecorGuild.blogspot.com

------------SWITCH PLATES-----------

If you see a switch plate you like the design on, but need a different size just let me know and I will get one made for you."

I bought 3 switch plates of variations of this material. I'd asked for one she didn't have (this was months ago) and she mentioned a few days ago she was still looking for it! I was embarrassed, as I was well pleased with the ones she sent and had dismissed the request from my mind.

"------------------------------------------

If you have a moment please stop by these studios:

My Mom's: http://EvE.artfire.com

My Grandmother's: http://Nonnie.artfire.com"

"Hi there. I've had a pretty interesting life for my short time here! Lived in many wonderful places (and many not so wonderful). Currently going to school to hopefully make something of myself :) I love making home decor items and experimenting to make new products. I have lots of crazy ideas..some work wonderfully and others end in disaster(and usually burnt hands). I also love playing with polymer clay but that is just a hobby and I would probably never sell any of my work. I have not had a traditional life at all...it is very hard for me to fill out any kind of form about myself *<:o)"
